KHARAR FLYOVER NOT MADE YET!

3-Km elevated road from Balongi light-point to Sunny Enclave and from there to BSNL building in KHARAR

The construction of the kHARAR flyover was started in 2016 and was to be completed in 2018. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) Punjab started the construction work of the flyover to relieve the problem of traffic from NH21 . As it connects Chandigarh with parts of Punjab beside Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. It will also connect Chandigarh with Manali .The construction of this flyover was intended to reduce the overflow of this traffic but it resulted in a much bigger chaos than expected.

Even after getting deviated from the main highway, heavy traffic is still a big problem for the local citizens of kHARAR and also for shopkeepers it came to light that their business has been a major decline by 70 per cent. Amandeep Singh, who has been running a mobile shop from the past 13 years in kHARAR, said around 250 people used to visit his shop daily. Since the construction of the flyover started, hardly 30 people per day visit his shop.

After asking from local people about their problem one of the resident told that though the construction of the kharar flyover started about three and half years ago, problem of traffic has been long prevalent since before the construction started. All the heavy duty vehicles, long route buses, even local buses and lot of trucks pass from that particular area near the kharar bus stand, so its big problem for them.

They are planning to open the flyover for the public from Khanpur till Desu Majra stretch by May which is why it’s getting delayed.

Kharar flyover have also been a current topic for viral memes on social media like, ”Everyone will die but the work on the Kharar flyover will continue forever.”

The NHAI has been blaming the Mohali district administration for the delay in razing of the remaining structures.  So hopefully the Punjab government will realise this delay and not just for the election sake they will work for the better lifestyle of citizen.
