Puppetry is one of the most inclusive art form . It is a form of storytelling, character and human interaction. Since childhood I was fascinated by puppetry shows ,how does a puppet work . So finally after years got I an opportunity to attend international puppet festival taking place in Tagore theatre Chandigarh . It is a four day festival from 14 to 17 February and is for all age groups. Puppeteers performing have traveled the world from Spain to Finland to Belgium to turkey curate their audience with cultural performances and communicate across their language barrier.
The Finland puppetry show The boy and the raven, depicted the story of a small boy who was separated from his parents at the time of war and lives all alone by himself. It was a time of hue and cry because of war and an injured raven fell from the sky ,landing next to him. He took the injured bird back home and slowly nursed him back to health even without any source of language. The boy and his little friend understood each other steadily. The story drives our attention towards the horrors of surviving war, urging us to pay attention to man’s violent history, to learn from it and to strive to become better human beings. It was a pure form of friendship seen from small child’s perspective .
It definately make us realize the importance of indepth knowledge ,philosophy and cultural lineage. This puppet show was very natural and creative which made the audience grasp into the main plot or script. I do believe ,watching puppet shows somehow provides opportunity to gain control over the world by working out with our fears and frustration. Talking about leisure , people of all age groups be it male or female enjoy watching puppet shows. Its tendency of todays youth that they usually stay glued to social media but its high time That children should indulge their time in such type of shows.
