Punjab and Haryana High Court banned the display of stickers on vehicles which defines Desgination , religion , caste , proffession or any other symbol related to celebrity status in Chandigarh. Every vehicle private or public have not been exempted except Ambulance, Fire Engines or any other vehicles used for salvage purpose .
To make clear the implementation of high court , the dual bench of Justice Anmol Rattan Singh and Justice Rajiv Sharma ordered the court staff to remove all the VIP Symbols from the High Court vehicles before making it come into action. The High Court had also gave 72hours to the people to comply with the new law and relay on it. This law is applicable on the residents of the UT and the vehicle entering the UT.
Regarding this matter the Traffic Police Officer said ” except the number plate if anything found written on the vehicle he/she will be charged .On first penalty of the vehicles on not removing the stickers of proffession or VIP symbols , there will be fine of rupees 500 and if the same mistake is repeated again the double penalty will be charged. This rule is made in order to keep all the citizens equal and not superior of anyone.”
Also the Traffic Police of Chandigarh have themselves scratched many VIP stickers from the vehicles . As of now no symbol of Army, Police, Air Force, Press, Navy, Advocate, or Chairman is allowed on the vehicles for the citizen. Earlier the same rule was implemented in Noida, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Delhi and now in Chandigarh.
This is the best decision the High Court has took for the equality between the citizens of Chandigarh. The sticker of Police or the Press on the vehicles create a superiority even if the owner , (who is the actual VIP) is not driving . The other person is also given the same importance that would have been given to the actual holder and this may also create the misuse of the power. sometimes it is the police who do not clarify or check the vehicle with VIP stickers. After this rule , all the vehicles are been treated equally and with same importance.
