corona virus myths busted!

The internet is full of corona virus related myths. For a country like India where people consider a black cat on the road as inauspicious , the number of fake news and myths surrounding covid is overflowing on social media. But, as a wise individual one must trust on the verified and authentic content from official websites of WHO in order to avoid any chaos. As they say “Half knowledge is dangerous”, I feel half knowledge of a news is far more dangerous than that. Here is a list of some of the myths that are prevalent online and perecieved as true by most of the people in society.
1) MYTH: CORONA VIRUS WILL NOT SURVIVE IN HOT AND HUMID WEATHER.
FACT: This claim is absolutely baseless as there have been evidences of a large number of cases in countries as well as cities all over the world possess hot and humid temperature conditions.
EX: KERALA IN INDIA
2) MYTH: MOSQUITOES CAN TRANSMIT CORONA VIRUS FROM AN INFECTED PERSON TO A HEALTHY PERSON.
FACT: The american mosquito control association has stated that for coronavirus to transmit through mosquito bite from one person to another, the virus should first replicate in the mosquito itself. And thankfully. no such evidences of mosquitoes catching coronavirus is seen.
3)MYTH: USING ALCOHOL BASED SANITIZERS OR CHLORINE ALL OVER YPUR HANDS AND BODY CAN KILL CORONAVIRUS.
FACT: All things can just kill the covid virus only if your hands have come in contact with an already infected person. But, once this virus transfers from your hands in your body, it cannot be killed. sanitizers do not kill the virus that has already transmitted into your body.
4) MYTH: VACCINES OF AIDS/PNEUMONIA/ MALARIA OR EVEN PARACETAMOL CAN HELP TO RECOVER FROM CRONAVIRUS.
FACT: The truth is that all these medicines are neither prescribed by WHO or ICMR. Thus, this is just a myth. Taking paracetamol however can provide relief from symptoms of covid like fever for a short span of time. But, it should not be taken either without a doctor’s prescription.
5)MYTH: CORONAVIRUS CAN BE PREVENTED BY CONSUMING GREEN TEA, VITAMIN C, GARLIC ETC.
FACT: All these things when consumed can neither prevent the transmission of coronavirus nor kill the virus after transmission. Eating such food products can only help you build a better immunity and thus helping you recover from coronavirus while you are under treatment of the doctor.
6)MYTH: CORONAVIRUS IS JUST AFFECTING ELDER POPULATION.
FACT: This myth is partially correct. Although the claim that coronavirus is fatal only for old people is totally false. Elderly people have an immune system weaker than young ones thus their body has less chances to fight against coronavirus. But, even young people all across the globe have suffered and the death rate is although more for older people but not that they are the only ones to suffer from this deadly contagious virus.
7)MYTH: THE 21 DAYS LOCKDOWN WILL END CORONAVIRUS FROM INDIA.
FACT: After the govt put a total lockdown in the country for 21 days saying it was a crucial span of time, many people misinterpreted the statement. Although, in order to break the chain of this virus, lockdown and social distancing for 21 days is scientifically advised by health experts. BUT, coronavirus will for sure not disappear from the country after this. It will just hamper the virus from spreading like it would have if the lockdown was not followed.
