Tapsee Pannu hits you hard in a film as strong as that thappad. It’s a simple story with layers and layers of surprise that will make you rethink yourself. This movie tells us all that only women have to sacrifice her dreams, her passion, her career and sometimes her self respect too. women have to simply and quietly tolerate the patriarchy, which is embedded deep in our culture that even women, who are independent, intelligent, experienced and successful can’t deny it.
In this movie a highly educated girl marry a high class rich man, who works too much hard to achieve a big position in a company and want to settle down in London with wife in new branch of his office and due to corporate polities his dream of owing a branch in London, became a dream itself and in aggression he slaps his lovely wife. Also this movie tells us about a strong bonding of father and daughter relationship. role of Tapsee Pannu’s father was amazing done by Kumud Mishra.
A family who always fulfil the dreams of women and believe in women, and with their daughter this kind of situation happened, slapping her in front of 40 guests was worst. Movie has so many scenes in which you will get carried away, like why home name plate should always have husband’s name? If husband and wife both are coming home from outside why only wife should give water? In our Indian society, concept of family is deep rooted although domestic violence is not permissible at any stage of marriage. Through this movie one realises that- it is not okay to accept any form of violence in a marriage or relationship, it is not okay to stick I an abusive relationship just because you want to make things work and to avoid the questions that will be raised by the society and also it is not okay to give up on all your dreams and live with regret around the same.
