ONE PLUS 8 – LEAD WITH SPEED ! (TECH-REVIEW)

The Chinese smartphone brand, Oneplus, has officially launched the most awaited Oneplus 8 series through an online event on 14th April, 2020. So is Oneplus 8 better than Oneplus 7? What are the new features added  in the Pro version of Oneplus 8 series? Is this a fair deal provided by the company to the customers? I’ll address all such questions and more. So the most awaited flagships smartphones are now available in the market with some really exciting upgradation in the battery life, camera quality and some new exciting colors.

If we start with talking about Oneplus 8, the phone comes in really exciting glacial green colors which give a real premium look to the phone. The smartphone functions on Android v10(Q) operating system and is powered by Octa core (2.84 GHz, Single core, Kryo 585+2.42GHz, Tri core, Kryo 585+1.8GHz, Quad core, Kryo 585) processor. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset. The device has a fluid AMOLED display 6.55 inches and weighs for around 180gms. The screen has a resolution of 1080*2400 pixels and 402 ppi pixel density. The aspect raio of the device is 20:9. The front punch hole camera of the smartphone is of 16MP  with an aperture f/2.5 and rear camera is of 48MP+16MP+2MP with a Fixed Focus feature. The smartphone comes with a 4300mAh battery and is available with a ‘warp’ charger by Oneplus with an output of 30watts. The Oneplus 8 comes in two variants 8GB RAM+128GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage both priced at Rs. 44,999 and Rs. 49,999 respectively.

Oneplus had made much changes and upgradation in the pro version of the Oneplus 8 series(something which we observed in the last launch also). The all new Oneplus 8pro runs on the same internal processor as that of Oneplus 8. The phone offers  a 10-bit display with 1.07 bn colours, and a 120 Hz refresh rate, a newer Sony 48 MP sensor for the primary camera. The smartphone has the front punch hole camera of 16MP with an aperture f/2.5and has four rear cameras of  48+48+8+5MP with Fixed Focus feature. The display of the phone is slightly increased and is available with 4510mAh battery and comes with a ‘warp’ charger by Oneplus with an output of 30watts. The Oneplus 8pro also comes in two variants 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage and both the variants priced at Rs. 54,999 and Rs. 59,999 respectively.

This time the Oneplus launch event was very different due to the coronavirus pandemic and the company must have missed their fans who actually pay a lot of attention to their launch event. At times, I feel pity for the fans that these people know that the company is not going to give away a single free smartphone in the event and then also they are excited as hell. Well, that’s a topic we would keep for later discussion. So the all new Oneplus 8 series comes with a lot new features which might excite a lot of users. There are some things that the company has done right like inspite of having a 6.55 inches screen the phone weighs only 180gms which is 10gms lighter than Oneplus 7t. The new device also have an amazing battery backup, supported with fast charging and is expected to charge a lot faster than its predecessor. The smartphone offers more powerful hardware with 5G compliance which makes sense for a flagship device to be future-proof. The other best thing and the last according to me is the launch of new vibrant colours.

Now just talk about the negatives the part that disappointed the fans. The company has degraded the camera department, the 12MP telephoto lens for 2x optical zoom has been replaced by the 2MP macro camera which is quite less for a flagship phone. The company has worked the least on the screen innovation and as every other smartphone brand Oneplus has also kept the punch hole camera towards left of the screen. The company had offered good features in 8pro than in the Oneplus 8 which is quite similar to the last Oneplus 7t. Eventually the pricing will play the main role that whether the Oneplus 8 series will make or break in the Indian market. If you are already a oneplus user then the price might be a bit out of budget as the company has rose the prices in competition to the iPhone 11, but if your budget allows then you should definitely go for it.
