RESEARCH PAPER : THE ARRIVAL OF ONLINE EDUCATION

Online Education has now become the talk of the town during the period of this lockdown and due to this corona virus. So Online Education is the type of education where student don’t have to go to their school or college and the classes are held online through various online meeting apps.  Online education has now become a trend in  India due to the lockdown and this corona virus pandemic. This mode of education is now widely followed in the country and has now become the new normal.

As India has around 300 million so it is quite important for the institutions to maintain the flow of knowledge and education during this challenging times. Many private institutions are now organizing the class through various online apps like the Google Meet, MS Teams, Zoom App and Go To Meeting. e-Learning apps like BYJU’s and Khan academy are targeting schools, others like Adda24x7 are offering specialized coaching for entrance exams like IIT and JEE. As per a report launched by BARC India, there has been a 30%  rise in the time spent on education apps on smart phones since the lockdown.

For instance, time spent on the Byju’s app has increased from 70 minutes (pre-lockdown) to 91 minutes during the lockdown. The ed-tech industry which was having a net worth of around Rs.15,000 crore has seen a massive surge in its value and this lockdown is proving to be pivotal for the industry. Ed-tech platforms are also working with schools to develop ways in which teachers can come on board and use tools to impart learning. Many apps including the Byju’s have seen a increase in the number of subscription during this lockdown period. Ed-tech firms have also taken to digital media to acquire users and inform people about the free live classes on offer. There has been a 128% growth in digital ad spends by ed-tech apps during the lockdown, as per the BARC  report. Well for online education to become a successful and a promising format of education proper internet connectivity also plays a huge role. According to reports, the mean mobile and broadband download speeds in India had fallen in March due to strain on the networks as everything in the country has gone virtual like the meetings of the companies, online classes, online exams etc. There has been a 1,523% increase in enrolments for courses relating to virtual teams.

The online learning marketplace has rolled out four courses themed around working remotely, and is encouraging and incentivizing instructors on its platform to create even more content around the subject. SWAYAM (study webs of active learning for young aspiring minds), an online learning platform run by Ministry of Human Resource Development, attracted at least 50,000 new subscribers since the announcement of lockdown period in India.  According to official sources, the ministry runs learning platforms like Diksha, e-pathasala, NROER (National Repository of Open Educational Resources), NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) and other IT initiatives e-yantra (robotics education), FOSSEE (open source software for education), virtual labs and spoken learning programmes. This can be the best to promote the education  but if the colleges are planning to shift permanently towards this platform then there is also fear that many people except the teachers might lose their job. But at present this is a good alternative to maintain the flow as students are not sitting idle.
