DEVI

Devi is a 13 minute short film directed by Pooja Banerjee that leaves us with so many hard hitting messages and will stay with us forever . The 13-minute film unravels the trauma of sexual violence faced by a group of nine women, all belonging to different backgrounds sharing a common room. The film opens to a room where a Burqa-clad women is seen waxing her legs , three Marathi women engrossed in playing cards, an English speaking modern women lost in her thoughts,  rich alcoholic modern women, a young girl busy studying for her medical exams, speech Impared girl who is trying to fix the TV and the last one simple god Worshipping . As the news on the TV blares out ,  yet another case of a gruesome crime,  creates silence in the room. Within that time, the doorbell rings and another girl is waiting outside to join them and they start debating whether to allow the girl in or not. Kajol the main protagonist says, “Yaha ki abadi bhadte ja rahi hai. TV dekhkar lag raha hai har roz koi naya ayega. Kitno ko bahar baitheynga.”All the 9 women have to live with harsh reality of being physically assaulted. The bell keeps on ringing and  women keep on arguing who stays inside and within the course of time they open upon about their abusers and share their stories  . Rich alcoholic women tells how she was thrown onto highway wrapping beer bottle around her ,mute girl tells how she was assaulted and medical student how she was left for the dead.

The ending part gave everyone goosebump and left the viewers teared eye when a small girl entered the room. This shows that condition is getting so worse day by day no one is spared from these demons.

Movie talks about so many important things in the space of few minutes. Every 20 minutes a women is raped in India and we worship women as goddess.
